Delete your HeySoror account

This page explains how to delete your HeySoror account and the personal data associated with it. HeySoror is operated by HeySoror Tech Inc.

How to request deletion

In the app

Open Profile & Settings, scroll to Account, and tap Delete account. You will be asked to type DELETE to confirm. Deletion is processed immediately, in a single operation — it is not scheduled for later.

If you cannot sign in

If you have uninstalled the app, lost access to your email, or cannot complete the in-app flow, email contact@heysoror.io from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We verify your identity before acting on the request, and we respond within the period applicable law requires, generally 45 days. We will tell you if we need longer.

What is deleted

  • Your profile and account credentials
  • All connections and friend requests
  • All messages you have sent, except copies kept for a safety report
  • Your trips and trip history
  • Your event RSVPs
  • Your location history

What is kept

Some information does not go away when you delete your account. We would rather tell you plainly than describe deletion as more complete than it is:

  • Conversations you took part in are retained with your membership removed. The messages you sent are deleted from them, except copies kept for a safety report
  • Safety reports you filed are retained with your identity replaced by a marker
  • Safety reports filed about you are retained in full, including your account identifier, so we can maintain a record of safety decisions
  • Copies kept for safety reports once we switch this safeguard on, after this version of the Privacy Policy takes effect: a copy of content another member reported, kept until its period below ends, even after the message or your account is deleted
  • Events you organized are retained with your name replaced by a generic label and your sorority and chapter removed; your organizer identifier and the code for your sorority are kept, and anyone can still read them
  • Administrative and audit records of verification and safety decisions, and of the deletion itself, are retained for security, audit, and dispute-resolution purposes
  • The banned-member record once we switch this safeguard on, after this version of the Privacy Policy takes effect: if your account was banned, one-way codes made from its email addresses and any Apple or Google sign-in, kept while the ban stands
  • Payment records held by Stripe along with waitlist entries, campaign attribution records, and referral or invitation records
  • Some uploaded images other than your profile photo — a cover image, or images attached to trips or events — may remain in our storage
  • Records of what you agreed to which versions of our Terms and Privacy Policy you accepted, and the consents you gave or withdrew; the IP address and device details recorded with them are removed
  • Backups copies in our routine database backups may remain until those backups are deleted or replaced in the ordinary course

If you want any of the above removed, email contact@heysoror.io and we will remove what the law entitles you to have removed.

How long retained data is kept

  • Transaction and tax records: seven years
  • Location history, while the feature is enabled: 90 days
  • Administrative and security audit records: the life of the account and a period afterward
  • Copies kept for safety reports, once switched on: while the report is open and 45 days after it is resolved, longer only while a hold applies
  • Banned-member records, once switched on: for as long as the ban stands
  • Crash reports: 30 days

Our Privacy Policy §8.2–8.4 is the authoritative description of deletion and retention.

Deleting some of your data without closing your account

You do not have to delete your account to remove data:

  • Edit or clear profile fields, including your photo, bio, and contact details
  • Delete individual messages you have sent
  • Delete trips and events you created
  • Turn off location sharing — new history stops immediately, and the 90-day deletion continues to run against what was already collected

To have anything else removed, email contact@heysoror.io.
